This course explores the principles of interviewing and teaches delegates to carry out investigative interviewing through the P.E.A.C.E technique. The course also covers effective note taking and case file management
Two areas of concern highlighted in case law and quality assurance file reviews are the poor quality of case notes including limited or no evidence or reasoning and the use or jargon and technical language particularly for adverse homeless decisions. As a result, decisions are often withdrawn at s202 review or county court appeal. The Homelessness Reduction Act places a duty on local authorities to prevent homelessness for households who are eligible and threatened with homelessness within 56 days. These new duties include a requirement to determine reasonable steps for both applicant and local authority to take through the creation of a personalised Housing Plan. It will be essential for local authority officers to carry out effective interviews and ensure effective case file management to avoid unnecessary challenge.
